U R What U Eat

If it's true that "you are what you eat", subsequently causing my unborn baby to be at risk of becoming what I've been eating, he or she is going to look a lot like sour soothers, cinnamon hearts, cool ranch Doritos and pudding! My pregnancy eating habits are SO bad. My biggest aversions are to anything healthy, and all my cravings are for anything unhealthy! Seriously, the minute I become pregnant I instantly find myself picking out the worst cereals (Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Sugar Crisp to name a few). I also find myself filling the shopping cart with candy, chocolate bars, hot chocolate mixes, GUSHERS (yes, I bought myself Gushers). What is going on with me? I want to eat healthy, and keep my body healthy for the baby - but all my taste buds are screaming for junk. I have tried forcing myself to eat better things, to drink water, to eat toast... but by mid-afternoon I'm on a sugar low, and I completely indulge, making excuses to myself that I deserve the treats because I went all morning without. Help!

Something that helped me - I had the same problem - was to eat something small with every meal/snack... I was lucky enough to go through that during Halloween so I had a mini choco-bar or something similar 3-4 times/day, resulting in really only 1 full sized a day!

No worries. The baby will take what it needs from your body. It's really you who would suffer the effects of poor eating in the long run. But lots of us have been there. There were a few weeks in my first pregnancy when I just wanted to eat hot dogs!!! (Ewww, right?) The first trimester I think you really just need to eat whatever gets you through. Don't stress about it. :)

Ya don't stress about what you eat, cause regardless the baby will get what it needs to grow. In the end though it'll just be you who's not getting the proper nutrients. Maybe just try and eat in proportion. I know when I was prego I had a slurpie almost every day! haha I just craved it, but I had it in the evening, so I tried to eat healthy for the rest of the day.
Either way you'll do good, and your baby will be just fine!

I so know what you mean. I had such a burning desire to eat right when I was pregnant with my son. I really really really wanted to eat well, and stay healthy and fit through the pregnancy, but when the rubber met the road, my desires were nothing more than desires, and I ate and ate and ate and ate....and ate. (real bad things too)
There needs to be a balance between, "who cares" and "everything I eat through this whhhhhhole pregnancy is going to be healthy". I think that a desire to eat well for the baby is a good one, and I challange you to follow those convictions. By God's grace and His grace alone, you can walk out the desires of your heart.
If your sweet tooth is screaming, eat fruit, (which is so good for baby too), and top it with low/no fat whipped cream, and sprinkle slenda. You can buy sugar free jubejubes too! They're a bit more expensive but it satisfies that craving.
I love love love cool ranch doritos! Oh my goodness....haven't had those in a long time. You can get ranch flavored quaker cripi minis, they're really good.
Anyways, I so know how you feel. I hope and pray that for my next pregnancy I'm able to make healthy choices and enjoy treats as I should, in moderation. But it's easy to talk, and hard to walk. I'll pray for you, that God will give you the power you need, and that His word will sustain you.
(we'd probably find eachother in the same isle if we shopped together, only I'd be buying the gushers for my little girls lunch! lol that's so funny that you bought those)

I remember I ate junk when I was pregnant with Annika - I felt SO guilty. But she came out just fine, and pretty smart, too. :)

maybe slowly ease your body into something healthier like...chocolate covered strawberries or sliced peaches with whipped cream on top! At least then it's not ALL bad!

Pudding.... that has gone through our house like wild fire these last few weeks! Phil started it - but I'm not helping one bit! I just tell myself that it's a source of calcium! lol. I actually haven't had huge cravings in my pregnancy, and I wish I did - it seems fun!
