It seems like these appointments are coming really quickly - which is good, because that means time isn't dragging too much now in the end. It wasn't really a very eventful appointment, although I found out I am positive for Group B Strep - which simply means I'll be put on IV antibiotics while in labour and delivery.
I have been having some funny, sharp pains in my pelvic area these days. They sort of feel like brief moments of crampiness, to a sharp discomfort that only lasts a couple of seconds. These pains come and go, but tend to happen the most in the evening. From my online research, I'm guessing it is simply the continuing dilation of my cervix - but it feels so weird. Or maybe it's just the baby's head moving around and hitting a nerve? Has anyone ever experienced this?

I always attributed those pains to my pelvis falling apart at the seams. I think there is some scientific basis for the bones having a bit of give between them but I forget it all by now (if it was true). You're making extra room for smooth passage.
I was tested positive for Beta-Strep as well. No big deal. The anti-biotic the give you during labor for this is kind of painful though. It feels almost like metal going through your arm... My husband had to rub my arm the entire time it was being put in. Took about an hour to get it all in me.
One bad thing about this anti-biotic is that its been shown to give women "Thrush" and if you get this it will make breastfeeding vert painful and hard. I didnt know this until recently... but that is probably why Caleb couldnt latch on. I had Thrush and didnt even know it.
The only thing you can do to help with this is get a good lactician specialist to help you nurse. Dont even TRY to nurse until you see one... I did... Biggest mistake :-(
As far as the pain..
Just part of the pregnancy :-)
That babies huge inside you... can you imagine all its pushing on haha... so thats normal.
Wont be long.
I had Caleb right at 38 weeks.
Oh yes, I know exactly the pains you are talking about. Fun stuff! If this is the first of that kind of pain for you, count yourself lucky that you didn't get it earlier....I can remember it starting for me around the 7th month or so. ouchie.
I've had thrush with both boys and I blame the antobiotics. (I got a double whammy cause I had the strep ones and then a whole bunch more cause of the emergency c-section.) I urge you to start taking acidophilus as soon as possible if you aren't already. It helps balance your yeast/bacteria numbers and can help to prevent thrush.
Oh, and I didn't find the injection during labor painful at all... I actually thought they hadn't done it till I asked my husband about it a week or so after (when the thrush started) and he said my doctor had come in, got it started, and explained it all to Glen... I assume I was too busy with the labor pains to notice?
i tested positive too. i didn't notice any pain when i got my antibiotic.
i also remember those pains. like amber said be glad they are only starting now. i think mine came around the same time hers did. for me it felt like a nerve being pinched. i would keel over sometimes cause it just catches you so off guard.
~ Reply to becky, :-)
I think my veins are extra sensitive or something... cause that stuff didnt feel good going in at all.
Maybe it had to do with the IV they used on me. I got stuck 5 times with different IV's... it took the specialist with an INFANT sized IV to get it going... Im really what they call "A Hard STRICK!" :-)
Becky - Thanks for the advice about the acidophilis. I'm going to pick some up today.
haha yea its annoying becky...
I dread any time I have to have needle work done. Its torture. You'd think with blood volume increasing with being pregnant that it make my veins bigger...
it doesnt
I have to drink so much water and actually LIFT weights sometimes to get my veins big enough to have a needle get in them...
The Dr's told me that I beteter hope I never need a blood transfusion.
